It appears that Arsenal’s hopes of signing Per Mertesacker have disappeared after Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs said the Germany international would not be sold before the transfer window closes later this month.
It had been reported that the Gunners were about to offer £10million for the experienced defender as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster a squad diminished by the departures of Sol Campbell, William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and Philippe Senderos.
However, Allofs says that the 25-year-old will definitely be staying at the Weserstadion.
“Per is 100 per cent for Werder!” he told Bild. “I have already said it several times and nothing has changed.”
Allofs has also revealed that he has received no offers for Mesut Ozil, adding:“Many clubs have expressed interest in him, but no concrete offers have been made.
“If we get an offer, we will deal with it. Then anything is possible.”
