Alasdair Gold linked the confirmation that Tottenham Hotspur had completed the loan signing of Gedson Fernandes on Wednesday morning, describing it as “signing number one”, and Spurs fans wasted no time in reading something into the tweet.
The priority for the north London outfit this month is clearly to bring in a new striker given Harry Kane has been ruled out until April having required surgery on a hamstring injury, but the first new face through the door has been a midfielder instead.
You would assume that a centre-forward will be following the 21-year-old through the door at some stage before the deadline on the 31st, but it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho will insist on strengthening any other positions.

However, not everyone took Gold’s tweet as an indication that more will be on the way, with one fan simply saying “that’ll be it”.
